I Can for Unit One

Having an argument with technology does not always
"play out" the way you would like...

The I Can charts from Unit One of Reading Street have been somewhat recovered and posted.
You can retrieve the file from HERE or by clicking on the picture.
Not sure why all the stories are not complete, but hope you can use the ones that are here.
Sorry for the confusion....

Day Four Fluency Reading Sheets

Reading Street Fluency Reading Sheets for Day Four of each story...

Download Unit One stories 4-6 HERE

Unit Two all stories HERE

Unit Three all stories HERE

I use them during my reading groups for word practice and fluency for the first couple of minutes.  They partner up at the table and practice reading the words and the sentences to each other.  I work with several on the fluency and expression part of the sentences.

"I Can" Statements for Unit Two Stories

I've created the "I Can" Statements in a pdf format to use with the Reading Street Unit 2 stories.
I have an area of my front chalkboard that I dedicate to posting the "I Can" statements in a plastic page protector and clip to the board with magnets.  I print off the entire unit at one time and put all into the page protectors so that on Friday I can just switch to the new stories' statements for the next week.  They're written in kid friendly terms...for the most part...and gives me something to refer to when I have that "unannounced" visit for evaluations.
I've tried to use a combination of the Common Core and SCS Power Standards as I was putting them together.
Hope you find them useful.
Enjoy your day!
Heidi

Back to School and a Basket of Goodies!

It's Back to School Shopping Time here in Shelby County.
Teachers head back next Monday.....
Where did the summer go?

I LOVE to shop for school supplies....I know...
it's weird ...but probably why I LOVE to teach so much too... :)
Do you have a favorite back to school item you "have to have" to start back to school?

I've been introduced to an online resource I'd like to share with you where you can find tons of great back to school deals for the things we use in the classroom all the time....

Discount Office Items accepts PO Orders and has a teacher deal going at the moment...
Check out some of the things I spotted that I love to start the school year with in my class...
Like these cool pens that are my favorite....
And this set of Prang Crayons ..... I LOVE having more than 24 colors to choose from :)
At this price, I can afford to get a couple of sets for my stations :)

And even the "dreaded pencil sharpener" purchase of the year....
I don't know about you, but I'm finding it harder and harder to find a pencil sharpener that will last throughout the year with my firsties!  I'm hoping one of these choices will be the "winner"!

has offered a goody basket of over $200 worth of "Back to School"
things for me to share with some friends...
So, I thought I'd share with some of my Shelby County Teacher Friends!
we're headed back next week and I thought it would be
easy to send the bounty through the 'pony'....

If you teach in a Shelby County School (TN)
 and
would like to enter a chance to share this goody basket with me...

please leave a comment below telling about your...
"Must Have Back to School Item"

Include your scs email at the end of your comment
so...I can get in touch with the lucky winner

Only one entry per person....please....but
feel free to share this opportunity with other teachers at your SCS School.

I'll do the pull the winner out of a hat
and the close the entries on
 Saturday morning
July 28th
8:oo am  (SCS Tn Time)

Have a Great Last Week of Summer!
Enjoy!

Decodable Stories for Unit Two

Decodable Posters
and
Decodable Readers
for
Reading Street
2008 version
Unit Two Stories
Tired of using all your allotted paper supplies to run the decodable readers for your students to use as your read through each unit?
My team is!  So we came up with the idea of typing out the decodable readers and putting them on the back of the decodable posters someone designed in our district (oh…so many years ago…).  The idea is to put copy the decodable posters on one side of the page and the decodable stories on the other side.  Then use the decodable reading booklets that have stories bundled in units during small group time.
Our students have 1” binders that house the school agenda book.  We’ll add these new pages to a page protector in the binder so they can take them home to read and manipulate with a visa marker as they work with the words.  No more…I forgot my book to read J  (probably won’t stop …I didn’t have time to read last night) but will come in handy for word work stations and the like J
Enjoy!

Left Right Center Game Lables

If you haven't hopped over to my Swamp Frog Blog....please check out the

My firsties are having a marvelous time playing this game during small groups

they're even more into the game...not as fancy as the monsters....BUT....
lots less ink and the kids are creating the cards!

I've uploaded the labels for "Frog and Toad Together"word work words for this week.
Download ed and ing labels ....HERE!

Need some advanced words?  Download them HERE!

And here's some labels for the AR words from the story!

I made more Left Right Center cards than are on the labels for you to download as the kids love the action and movement these cards give them!
Soooo...here a set of labels with just Left-Right-Center on them!

Enjoy your Day!
Heidi
